Basic mode is the easiest way to determine the correct file name template if your song files are named in one of several common naming conventions. This mode works by simply applying the common file name templates to one of the song files you intend to import. When you've confirmed the song data is properly extracted from your file name, you're all set!
Instructions
| 2. | You will now see the following window: |

| 3. | This software will attempt to locate a song on your hard drive to assist in determining how your files are named. In some cases, the software will be unable to find one automatically. In this case just click Browse and select one of the song files you intend to import from your hard drive. |
| 4. | Once a song is selected, the first common file name template will be applied and you will see the results of the data extraction using this template. Verify the Artist, Song Title, Album, and Track # are all extracted properly and completely. If so, click This Is Correct. (See notes below) |
| 5. | If the data is not extracted properly or completely just click Try Next to try the next common file name template and repeat until the extracted data is correct. |
| 6. | If you've tried all the common templates and none match you will see the following window: |

| 7. | This should not be common, but it is possible. The best thing to do is click Abort which will help you determine the proper file name template using Intermediate mode. |
| • | Before clicking This Is Correct, it is very important to properly verify the data is indeed extracted correctly. If the artist of the song is "Brooks - Garth", but you only see "Brooks" in the artist field, this is not correct. In addition, it is also possible that the artist, title, etc fields may be reversed. In this case, click Try Next to see if another template will work. |
| • | If the track number is showing a 0 (zero) then Pilot Song Book Creator was unable to locate the track number in the test song based on the current template (or the track number is not in the file name). If this is the case during the actual import, Pilot Song Book Creator will automatically assign a track number during the import process based on the order each song is imported. |
| • | If you do not wish to import data such as the Album name into your song book, just check the corresponding Ignore? check box. This is NOT recommended as it is best to have as much data as possible imported into your song book. |
| • | If you'd prefer to try one of the more advanced methods for determining your file name template, just click the select the Intermediate Mode or Advanced Mode tab. |
| • | The Disc # is imported from the folder name of the song you are importing and does not come from the song file name. |
| • | If you have song files on your hard drive that are named with different naming conventions, you will more than likely be able to import them all, but you will need to do a separate import with the correct file name template for for each set of these files. |
