Pilot Song Book Creator offers (arguably) the most capable filtering available in any song book software.  The filtering possibilities are literally endless.  This topic will discuss the basics of filtering and touch on the more advanced capabilities.

Filtering Basics:

To activate a filter on one or more columns of data (Artist, Title, etc) simply begin to type the information for which you wish to filter into the "filter row".  The filter row is the "blank" row that appears directly below the table header as shown below:

As you begin to apply a filter by typing into the filter row, you will see your song list automatically reduce to only the songs that match the filter (see below for an example):

In the example above, the song list is filtered to only show those songs that have a title beginning with "spea".

To clear the filter from a particular column, simply click the button for that column.  To clear all filters, click the left most button.

Advanced Filtering

With simple-to-apply advanced filtering, you can quickly locate songs or groups of songs on virtually ANY criteria!

Filter Suggestions

Clicking the "down arrow" to the right of the column in the row you are filtering will display several suggested filters, the first of which is the "(Custom)" filter which can be used to filter a single column on multiple criteria.

Clicking the "Down Arrow button" will show a pop up menu similar to this:

Filter Criteria

Clicking the button for a given text based column (Artist, title, etc) shows this menu:

This menu offers numerous different types of filters which will determine how the list is limited based on the filter criteria.

Multiple Column Filtering

In addition to the above, you can apply a filter on as many columns as you choose.  Simply follow the above guidelines for each column you wish to filter.

Notes

Filters are only temporary, you are not actually removing the songs that are excluded by the filter
You can edit the data in a filtered list of songs just like you would if all songs were visible.  This can be a very valuable tool for ensuring your song book data is consistent which will make it much easier for people to locate songs in your finished song book.
